You know it is a good ride when your heart beat syncs with the thumping of your bicycle wheels on the pavement! Todays ride for International Winter Bike to Work Day was fabulous. I work from home so technically I am “at work” when I roll out of bed. So to participate, a coffee date was set with other local riders this AM. Actually, it was more of a challenge that was put out by Grove Ayers a local rider who is very active with Charity Miles for the Micheal J. Fox Foundation. He always takes some beautiful photos while he is out riding!
For a rainy day I think having four people turn up is pretty good! We also met at 8am which for a lot of people in this area is when they are alreay at their jobs. It was great though! Fantastic coversation, great coffee, and a brisk refreshing bicycle ride is how everyone should start their day.
Tom and I rode from home in downtown Coeur d’Alene to Java in Hayden which is where we all met. It had been raining all night and was still a bit drizzly, so I made sure to break out the waterproof gear for the ride. We did however forget that our mountain bikes do not have fenders. Needless to say we had a fashionable mud streak up our backs as well as pretty good splatter happening on our front sides.
Regardless of the mud, it was a pretty uneventful ride. It just was exciting to get back out on to my bicyle putting on some miles. I am hoping to do it more often and maybe, just maybe, I will become an all year rider!
Did you get out and ride today? Did you bicycle commute to work or if you work from home did you get out and meet with friends? Or, maybe you decided on a solo ride? We would Love to hear about your experience(s) in the comments!!!
Cheers and Ride On!
In case you were curious…here is what I wore for the ride today. When it is wet wearing waterproof gear or at least waterproof clothing helps with the mud. It brushes off easily when it dries, or with a quick swipe of a paper towel when it is wet.
